My husband and I went to Jersey Shore this past weekend when it finally warmed up here in the NYC/NJ area. Lately, the weather has been really cold for June and couldn’t make it out to the beach at all until now! Needless to say, we had a lot of fun… we are known to be serious beach bums! My beach outfit as you can see are easy and practical and as usual, I am wearing only comfort chic!
My beach fashion essentials are a large hat, sunglasses, flip flops, comfy tank top with shorts or a soft dress or romper and a cover-up such as a lightweight jacket, cardigan or a button down shirt. I also like to wear simple large hoop earrings but forgo any other accessories and last but not least, a bikini!
In this outfit, I tied a knot on this white easy distressed tank top with my high rise destroyed denim shortie with striped button down shirt as a cover-up for any breezy moments. Of course, I also had my large straw hat to cover up my face from too much sun along with my yellow sunnies and my go-to hoop earrings.I chose a mismatched bikini and wore a plain dark coral bikini top and a dark blue mixed color bikini bottom that has little coral specks. This bikini was bought separately but certainly looked like a set because of the cohesive coral color. I love mixing and mismatching bikinis because I can get creative and this is one of my favorite pair to mix.
Lena’s X Factor: Sunglasses
The X Factor is definitely my yellow mirrored aviators from Diff Eyewear! Even though there were various outfits styled, the sunnies really popped against all of them and gave it that fun chic beachy vibe! Remember to use my code LENADIFF for 25% off on all of their fabulous sunnies!
I still choose to wear a bikini in spite of a huge vertical scar that I have on my stomach from 3 major life-threatening open stomach surgeries. I always wore bikinis in the past and I chose to stay the same. Although the trend is now to rock a sexy one-piece swimsuit and I can totally get away with covering my scars, I choose not to because I don’t want to use that as an excuse to cover up. I am tempted to but I stop myself from taking the easy way out and just cover up an ugly scar and bury my battle wounds. I do struggle but I instead choose to show off what I rightfully earned beautifully in my bikini. It is more of an emotional battle that I fight but I conquer it by the grace of God.
I have a huge vertical scar all the way down to there and even a horizontal one across my entire belly below my bikini. My belly button changed it’s shape and my stomach is not as smooth as before and took on a weird, odd and lumpy form on one spot. But, this is the new me and I am learning daily to accept my battle scars and embrace it bravely and proudly. These scars are more than just a mere superficial eye sore. Excruciating physical pain, suffering, fears, harsh reality, agony, lonely nights in the hospital, endless needles and shots, claustrophobic scans, weeks of starvation, loss of basic mobility, humility, uncomfortable biopsy and tests, painful vomits and unbearable nausea, loss of substantial blood, years of ongoing difficult and complicated recovery, shame, outcast as a barren woman, shock, trauma, hopelessness, sadness, anger, depression, questions unanswered and so, so much more are embedded into these stiff fibrous scars.
It’s been a year and 4 months since my third, last and final surgery and I can honestly say that it has been a hard long road but an extremely blessed journey thus far. Thank you Jesus for saving my life and for the blessed scars to remind me of it everyday.
True, interesting, miraculous fact: When I look down at my stomach and see my scars that now occupy, it resembles exactly that of a big cross. And no, it does not look like a clean-cut neat cross like the ones we often see. I look down at my stomach and I literally see a bumpy, crooked, jagged, discolored, thorny, ugly cross that looks like it was carried and dragged through the hills and road full of dirt, of a great struggle and a cross that toiled a very painful hardship.
Praise Jesus Christ for His glory forever and ever! Amen!
